|
|
INSTRUCTIONS:
Rename your downloaded file to qa_layouts.dat. Then replace the qa_layouts on your device in \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\ and then soft reset your phone.
If you'd like to go back to the original layout, download this orignal layouts, rename it to qa_layouts.dat, replace the file in \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\ and soft reset your phone.
The layouts I have planned (for now) are for the Launcher screen, including:
No "pinned" buttons (the 12 small ones) (looks like http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screen01ue5.png )
Available for download here
Switch the smaller and larger grids:
Available for download here
9 SPB Menu Items (posted by azzam99, author Mr. Vi)
Here
6 SPB Menu items, 1 pinned row (sgreenwood99)
Here
Notifications (texts, emails, calls on all three screens) (ciatis)
Here
"Messaging Freak" with 4 screens! (ciatis) Same as above
Here
Note: These are NOT endorsed by SPB, and although I am quite sure they're harmless, I'm not responsible for any damage that might be caused.
Dredd67 over at xda-developers has written a GREAT tutorial to help beginners customize their Mobile Shell. Give it a read here. [/url]

Thanks, met3ora. Let me ask you this question. Is it possible to create a button on the launcher which would be like an empty folder that I could move things in and out of?

| Yes, but with registry tweaking. I'll explain that later on. It's quite easy. |

Appreciating your efforts, met3ora, I'm wondering what Spb thinks of all this; this seems to be beyond tweaking, and into the realm of hacking; after al, you had to crack a password to get to the contents of the xml file.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because obviously a lot of people see the lack of customizability as a minus, but I'm just curious what Spb has to say about it. _________________

ridolfo, good question. I must have missed the part where it was password protected. Anyway, in my mind, what is being suggested is no different than the Spb Weather templates...but I don't know if Spb will feel the same way.

| If I'm contacted, I'll of course not continue, but I haven't seen a dev on the boards in awhile. |

| The first layout is up, it gets rid of the 12 pinned items and centers your 6 button grid. |

| What do you want in the 9 button grid? Pinned items or SPB menu? I'm not sure we can have more than 6 SPB menu buttons, but I'll try later. |

I think to start, if you make it the 8 items from SPB Menu, and then a 9th that would include the MRU items.

I missed the password crack also....
But I'm definitely interested.

I think this is brilliant.
You guys know that I don't favor complex customization, but I like the ingenuity here. I think if I were Spb, I'd love it, too. There's nothing better for a product than having your customers want to home-brew their own versions of it; it can only help increase sales and customer enthusiasm.
Looking forward to seeing what else you can come up with.
